Samurai Mask 2

When I originally did the first (green) mask back in 2012 I wanted to do a series using a very simple pallet of primary and secondry colours. It's taken me more than 2 years but I've finally got onto the second one. Maybe in 2 more years I'll get onto the 3rd.

Here are the inks for starters.

(The design sketch for this mask can be found in the previous post)

And the first peice.

Christened!

The studio isn't finished and my room has quite a few more things to do to it but I have finally made some work in it!

...and here it is...

I added colour to the B&W I did a while ago. Wasn't sure which way to take this when I started so I started with the eyes (red is aways good for eyes) and went from there.

Here's the colour sans line art...

I reduced the image in photoshop and then printed it onto a peice of A4 arches watercolour paper 180gsm and painted in gouache.

Kensuke pinup/cover B&W

A mixture of masks and helmets to create something unique... I hope. Just needs the ink wash and it's done.

Kensuke part 2 details

Some details from Kensuke. They still need the gouache washes but I'm hoping that will go quickly - I'm already 2 weeks over deadline.

All done with my trustly medium Pentel Aquash brush pen with some crappy ink that rendered my pen not so trusty and Pebeo ink that got it back on track.

There's been quite a lot oon this past month and a half. A lot of progress on the studio but then garlic planting and Easter in the middle of all that has meant comic work has progressed slowly. It doesn't look like picking up either but I keep chipping away!

Kensuke has begun.

The first page.

This ink and black and white gouache on canson water colour pad 270gsm. I'm not sure if this is the way to go but I reckon I'm getting some alright effects. Stay tuned there be more to come.
